June 22 -27, 2012 in Olympia, Greece
ISUD is a society of international scholars devoted to promoting international dialogue and the discussion of fundamental questions of universal concern, which affect all humanity, such as world peace, human rights, dialogical interrelations of diverse cultures, and preservation of the world ecology.
Based on the methodology of Environmental and Prehistoric Archaeology, Professor Lilian Karali will organise an interdisciplinary panel investigating the cultural connections between the East and the West with the aim to better understand the interrelations of past Eastern and Western societies, which are often studied as separate entities and not as part of the same human past. This understanding could lead to a better communication between modern scholars, finding common ground. The panel welcomes scientists from different disciplines, such as art historians, philosophers, archaeologists, philologists, etc.
If you would like to propose a talk for this panel session, and for any related question, please contact Prof. Lilian Karali (firstname.lastname@example.org). The deadline for abstracts is August 10, 2011. Please send your title and a 300-500 words abstract in English by e-mail attachment in Word document format.
During the 8th ISUD Congress in Beijing, at the General Assembly I pledged hold our next, 9th Congress, in Olympia, Greece. I am pleased to inform you that the preparation for the Congress continues as scheduled. The Congress will take place on 22-27 June of 2012, and each of you is welcome to participate in it.
As result of the collective efforts of the Executive Committee, of the Board members, and of the recently created Review Panel, we have selected the main theme of the Congress and drafted the Call for Papers (see http://www.isud.org/). The theme of the Congress, Democratic Culture: Historical Reflections and Modern Transformations, is very relevant. It is in tune with the purpose of ISUD and its scope, and it is broad enough, so as to give an opportunity for each participant to contribute to the discussions at the Congress from his/her own perspective.
At this phase of preparation for the Congress we are focused on spreading the word about the Congress, and hoping for a good participation. We want to publicize the Call for Papers as broadly as possible. It is placed on our website: http://www.isud.org/
I would like to ask each of you to spread the Call for Papers among your colleagues, to post it on websites, etc. If you have any idea about other possible ways of publicizing it, please let me know. Your ideas are most welcome.
Wishing you a joyful and philosophically creative summer,
President of ISUD
Lilian Karali, Secretary General, 9, Aristotelous St., 151 24 Amaroussion, Greece;
